China Telecom Americas along with its branch China Telecom Canada have officially launched a mobile communication service in Toronto.

China Telecom Americas along with its branch China Telecom Canada have officially launched a mobile communication service in Toronto.

The new service, CTExcel, becomes the first Chinese telecommunication carrier that provides mobile communication services with its own brand in Canada.

This is a milestone for China Telecom since its first success in the US with CTExcel back in May 2015, said Ou Yan, vice-president of China Telecom Global.

“CTExcel is a mobile communication service tailored for Chinese Canadians and international students. It inherited the superiority of a long-standing backbone network of China Telecom,” Ou said at the launch on Nov 22.

According to Ou, with extensive operating experience overseas, CTExcel will provide friendly and exclusive customer service by offering unlimited data, unlimited international calling and text messaging services.

The first ever “one card dual number” service has both Canadian and virtual Chinese phone numbers at the same time. In that way, the client can receive text messages with verification codes from China and let Chinese relatives and friends exempt international long distance fees from contacting Canada at any time.

“We believe that as one of the largest communication carriers, China Telecom is committed to the development of global operations and capabilities,” Ou added.

Markham City Councillor Alan Ho, on behalf of Mayor Frank Scarpitti, said he was proud of the finalization of China Telecom Canada in Markham, known as the Silicon Valley of the Grand Toronto Area.

Ho said the city will support the operator’s future development in Canada, and expect more contributions to Markham’s economic development from it.

“The launch of China Telecom mobile services tightens the connection between China and Canada and secures high-quality communication,” said E Defeng, Chinese Commercial Counselor in Toronto. “It is extremely crucial for the never-ending expansion of Sino-Canada trade and cultural exchange.”

Data show that there are nearly 2 million Chinese Canadians and international students currently residing in Canada. In order to serve them better, China Telecom emerged onto the market by signing business cooperation agreements with channel agent CIK Telecom, as well as dozens of universities and colleges across Canada, and many other enterprises.

“It would be a flow of new energy instilled into the Canadian telecom market,” said Sun Feng, president of China Telecom Americas Mobile Service Department. “It shall bring a better, more affordable service to them with more efficiency, more convenience and better quality,”

Starting with the establishment of its US office in November 2000, China Telecom has branched out to 39 countries and regions around the world, including China Telecom Global Ltd (Hong Kong), China Telecom Americas Corporation and China Telecom Ltd (Europe).
