Preparations underway for design week in Suzhou

To prepare for Suzhou International Design Week, which kicks off on Nov 23, the local government will hold a series of activities to attract investment for the event at the Taohuawu historical and cultural area in Suzhou, Jiangsu province.

A food festival offering 30 different kinds of zaodian, or morning food, to satiate designers, gourmets and tourists was launched on Tuesday, serving as the warm-up for these activities.

Wang Yudong, an official of the Beijing International Design Week suggested the event in Suzhou should take priority to industrial design as the manufacturing industry in the city is highly developed, as is science and technology.

“These designs should help push forward local economic development and bring in new blood to the manufacturing industry in Suzhou,” says Wang.

This time, the design week aims to boost cultural and creative industry in Suzhou by boosting forms of intangible cultural heritages and luring innovative and talented people to the city.

Italy’s Venice will send a delegation which will include leaders in business, government and academia, brand representatives and designers to visit innovation parks in Suzhou, initiate scholarship for universities in the city and share their future plan and vision with its citizen during the five-day event.
