BEIJING - China is looking to raise the rewards for those who report pornographic and illegal publications to as high as 600,000 yuan (around 86,480 US dollars), according to a new guideline on the rewards.

Jointly reviewed and issued by the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications, the Ministry of Finance and two other departments, the guideline details the range, standard, procedure and supervision of the rewards, and lays out the 16 circumstances for which a reward will be given.

The work against pornographic and illegal publications cannot go on without the support and participation of the public, and the reward system for reports should advance with the times, the office said in a statement.

The revisions to the guideline will help encourage and motivate the people to further take part in the work and will help crack down on those involved in activities related to pornographic and illegal publications, according to the office.

The new guideline is set to go into effect on Dec. 1.
