China, Singapore work to promote bilateral ties

Li: Beijing ready to work with Singapore to boost China-ASEAN ties

China is willing to work with Singapore to achieve new progress in China-ASEAN ties, Premier Li Keqiang said when meeting with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob on Wednesday.

Li said Deng Xiaoping visited Singapore 40 years ago, laying foundation for the development of bilateral ties. After that, Singapore actively participated in China's reform and opening-up for win-win cooperation, Li said.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of China-ASEAN strategic partnership, and China has placed priority over its relations with the regional bloc, Premier Li said. China appreciates Singapore's active role in promote China-ASEAN relations as the coordinator and during its rotating presidency of ASEAN, he said.

Halimah said more than 10 agreements were signed during Li's visit, including the protocol of upgrading the free trade agreement, which bring bilateral ties to a new level. Both countries should explore new areas for further cooperation, such as tourism and culture, she said. Singapore is willing to work with China to promote deeper ties between ASEAN and China, she added.
