Heavy fog forces closure of expressways in Beijing

Winter heating and vehicle emissions combined with continuous south wind and high humidity intensified the secondary transformation of gaseous pollutants such as NOx and SO2, and raised the concentration of PM2.5, according to a notice issued by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
