Beijing university hosts Chinese language teaching conference
Sinologists from around the world gathered at Peking University on Thursday to discuss important issues concerning the teaching of the Chinese language.
The 13th International Conference on Chinese Language Teaching and Research was co-organized by PKU, the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching, and the Confucius Institute Headquarters, aka Hanban.
The two-day event, themed "Research and Development of Chinese Language Teaching", attracted more than 340 Sinologists, teachers and experts from over 32 countries and regions.
Xu Jialu, head of the society, acknowledged the importance of a global dialogue on Chinese language teaching. He said teaching the language plays a significant role in strengthening the friendship and communication between people from China and the rest of the world.
Hao Ping, the president of PKU, said the university has helped set up Confucius institutes at more than 10 overseas universities, adding that his college will always be committed to Chinese language teaching.
Ma Jianfei, deputy director of Hanban, said with increasing cooperation, PKU, the society and Hanban will become the driving forces for the development of Chinese language teaching.
