Sino-UK forum discusses cross-border judicial cooperation


The 5th UK China Judicial Roundtable with a focus on cross-border judicial cooperation was held at Shanghai Xuhui District Court on Thursday.
Senior judges and legal professionals discussed issues on evidence exchange in the cooperative campaign against organized cross-border crimes as well as establishing professional and diversified financial trial and dispute resolution system under the background of financial globalization.
Pei Xianding, full-time member of the adjudication committee of the Supreme People's Court of China, and Lord Hodge, justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, addressed the opening ceremony of the roundtable.
Pei said the roundtable was a starting point to innovate forms of cooperation, enhance mutual understanding, and promoting the institutionalization and normalization of Sino-UK judicial exchange and collaboration.
"We'll also establish smoother information exchange and sharing channels, including building communication platforms with big-data, internet and artificial intelligence technologies, in order to promote more convenient and efficient cooperation between the two parties," he said.
Hodge said that as Sino-UK economic cooperation and cultural exchange become more frequent, a strengthened mutual legal assistance between the two countries will surely benefit both nations.
"The two countries can learn from each other and promote exchange between judges and legal professionals in the two countries to jointly promote the continued and friendly development of Sino-UK relations," he said.
