A group of 28 diplomatic envoys to China from 20 countries visited East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China) in Wuhan, central China's Hubei province, on Oct 18.

Participants included envoys from Russia, Italy, Laos, Fiji, and South Sudan, as well as representatives from the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the ASEAN-China Center secretariat.

Officials from the Protocol Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China also attended the activity.

The group visited the Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) company at the Biolake in the zone, acquiring knowledge about the company's history, issues regarding patent applications, and product development.

They also visited Wuhan Industrial Institute for Optoelectronics and Wuhan Institute of New Energy, which are located at the Future City in Optics Valley, to learn about the development of optoelectronic information and new energy industries in the zone.

Optics Valley's achievement in hi-tech industries made a profound impression on the group.

Liu Ziqing, director of the zone's administrative committee, welcomed the group and introduced the zone, expecting more cooperation in the future with the participating countries.
