11 killed, over 30 injured in S. Africa bus crash

JOHANNESBURG, Sept. 17 - At least 11 people were killed and over 30 others injured when a Zambian bus they were travelling in crashed in Limpopo, South Africa, on Monday.
"Eleven people are confirmed to be deceased," Makoma Makhurupetje, of Limpopo's transport authority, told Xinhua.
Zambia's High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba confirmed that the bus, which was traveling from Zambia's Kitwe city to South Africa over-turned in the early hours of Monday at a place about 107 kilometers from Pretoria.
He said the accident happened when the bus had a tyre burst, resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle which overturned.
The Zambian envoy said among the dead were eight men and three women while several others sustained injuries, according to a statement.
The bus was carrying 50 passengers and five crew members, and the embassy, he said, was coordinating with the bus company to establish the details of the passengers.
South African authorities are also identifying the nationalities of the victims.
