At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, President will attend the 4th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on Tuesday and Wednesday. People's Daily comments:

His attendance at the event will be the first by a Chinese leader, and provides the opportunity for talks between the two leaders to inject fresh impetus into the two neighbors' comprehensive strategic partnership.

The Eastern Economic Forum, initiated in 2015 following its proposal by Putin, has become a new platform to deepen Asia-Pacific economic cooperation and discuss issues in the Far East. That Xi will attend the forum shows China attaches great attention to cooperation to promote development of the region and its firm resolve to promote regional development and prosperity. It also drives home a message to the world that promoting trade and investment facilitation is the correct option for regional economic development.

China and Russia have set a good example for major country relations, which benefits not only the two peoples, but also the whole world.

President Xi's attendance at the forum will continue the tradition that China and Russia support each other's big events. Xi's appearance at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics of Sochi in Russia in 2014 marked the first time a Chinese leader attended a sports event overseas.

Xi also attended Russia's commemorative activity for the 70th anniversary of victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, held in Moscow on May 9, 2015, and Putin also attended China's parade to commemorate victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) in Beijing on Sept 3, 2015. Which shows the two countries' firm resolve to safeguard the fruits of those victories and the postwar order with the United Nations as the bedrock.

Likewise, Putin attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing in 2017. Which sent a message that they will push the world to build an open type of economy together.
