Chinese State Councilor Zhao Kezhi Thursday stressed tightening control on drugs and called for a further crackdown on drug-related crime.
Zhao, also director of the National Narcotics Control Commission, made the remarks at a national teleconference on drug control.
Zhao required a tough crackdown against the crimes of producing and selling drugs, as well as drug-related gang crime, noting that more efforts should be made to solve major problems including drug-related crime in impoverished areas, drugs smuggled in from other countries, and control of substances that can be used to make drugs.
He also called for improved work to help drug addicts and enhanced anti-drug promotion.
