Hero captain lands at Tsinghua University


Liu Chuanjian, the hero captain who safely landed Sichuan Airlines Flight 3U8633 in May, has been admitted to the aeronautics and aviation management program at Tsinghua University.
Liu's was highly praised for calmly landing the Airbus A 319 en route from Chongqing to Lhasa, Tibet, when the windshield suddenly broke at 32,000 feet above the ground.
He was called "hero captain of China's civil aviation" and was awarded five million yuan ($730,000) prize. His heroic deed is even going to be turned into a movie by one of China's major film company.
When Liu learned that he had passed the admission interview process, he was very excited. "Tsinghua University is always the university I've dreamed of," Liu said.
The 40-year-old Liu has more than 20 years of flying experience. “A further study in the Economics and Management School of Tsinghua University will help enhance my flying skills and knowledge," he said.
