BEIJING - China's top observatory said Saturday that Yagi, the 14th typhoon this year, is moving toward China's east coast and will make landfall on Sunday evening.

At 8 am, the center of Yagi was monitored over the Pacific ocean, about 900 km southeast of Xiangshan County, Zhejiang province, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said in a statement.

It will move at a pace of around 20 km per hour towards the northwest with gradually increasing force, and will make landfall in Zhejiang province Sunday evening, the center said.

The NMC on Saturday renewed a blue alert for the typhoon, the lowest level in China's four-tier color-coded warning system.

Yagi will continue to move northwest after the landing, but its force will dwindle, the NMC said.

The typhoon will bring gales and heavy rain to areas along its route.

The center suggested local governments take precautions against possible disasters, ships in affected areas return to port, and residents along the typhoon's path stay indoors until it passes.
