KATHMANDU - The death toll in a landslide occurred at Timure in Nepal-China bordering district Rasuwa has climbed to eight, a senior government official said here on Thursday evening.

Krishna Prasad Poudel, the district administration officer in Rasuwa, told Xinhua that they have recovered four more bodies in course of their rescue operations on Thursday.

"One person has still gone missing and rescue operation is underway," the official said.

Timure is located some 3 km from the Rasuwagadhi border crossing (Geelong Port) between Nepal and China, where most of the local government offices are located.

The landslide occurred on Wednesday midnight and buried two temporary houses, a local police station and two trucks, according to Poudel.

"Five critically injured were sent to Kathmandu for further treatment while seven minor injured returned their homes earlier today," the official said from the site, adding that rescue operation has been affected due to poor weather condition amid rainfalls.

Traffic has been severely affected due to landslides in various sections of the Syaphrubesi-Rasuwagadi highway.

The northern district of Rasuwa is prone to landslides owing to its complex geography.

Sixty-four people have been killed while 12 have gone missing in floods and landslides since the beginning of the monsoon season across the country, according to the Nepal's Ministry of Home Affairs.
