Inner Mongolia's Kubuqi Desert to hold spectacular balloon festival

It was recently announced that an international balloon festival will be held between Aug 18 and 24 at the Kubuqi Desert in Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, with various activities taking place including light shows and a beer festival.

As one of the closest deserts to Beijing, it's an ideal getaway for urbanites looking to escape the summer heat of the capital.

During the festival, 40 balloons measuring 30 meters in diameter will take off simultaneously. Tourists can enjoy the breathtaking aerial experience which will provide them with a bird's-eye view of the vast desert scenery and its oases.
