A total of 12 global hi-tech start-up teams competed at the final of the 6th Inno-China Entrepreneurship Competition, that took place in the Jiading district of Shanghai on July 11.

The finalists from Boston, Houston, and New York in the United States, Waterloo in Canada, Singapore, Sydney in Australia, and Shanghai in China stood out from over 116 participating teams worldwide.

They showcased hi-tech projects in the fields of new material, health care, optical, mechanical and electrical equipment, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing.

The final competition saw the contestants have seven minutes to introduce the strengths of their projects and eight minutes to reply to the judges' questions. After fierce competition, a 3D imaging sensor project won the "Most Potential Technology Award", a hand-held spectrograph project took the "Best Business Plan Award", and a shock-resistance film used for an automobile's front windshield was granted with the "Most Valuable Investment Project Award".

The Inno-China Entrepreneurship Competition started in 2013 and is one of Shanghai's key projects to encourage and lure overseas professionals to start-up businesses in China.

In 2015, the event began expanding its presence beyond the Chinese mainland by setting up competition venues in Boston and Hong Kong. In 2017, the number of venues was expanded to more than 20 cities worldwide.
