Women’s innovation shines along Silk Road

More than 150 stylists and delegates from various institutes and companies attended a meeting on design in Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi province, on July 18.
Zong Mingming, professor at the School of Design and Arts of Beijing Institute of Technology, delivered a speech on culture and livelihood service under the Belt and Road Initiative at the meeting based on her design experience.
The event was one of the information sessions of the 2ndSilk Road Women Innovative Design Competition which is intended to promote exchanges among women who live in countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative through encouraging their innovative design ideas.
At the session, Yang Le, vice president of the Shaanxi Women’s Federation, expressed the significance of Xi’an for the ancient Silk Road and explained the role this contest plays in promoting relations and exchanges among women in countries involved in the Initiative.
According to Yang, the first contest was held in July 2017 as a platform to show women’s innovative designs to the world, promoting a spirit of people from different countries and cultural backgrounds and with various beliefs living harmoniously and working together to build better communities.
“Women are participants, forces and contributors in the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and they can also benefit from its success,” Yang said.
“I wish women from all around the world could join in the competition and cooperate and learn from each other in the contest.”
There are three product categories in the contest -- industrial products, green life products and cultural innovative products. The first prize winner will be awarded 10,000 yuan ($1,489) and excellent entries will be displayed at international design seminars and forums, such as the World Green Design Forum to be held in Belgium.
The competition began in May and will last until late September. It is sponsored by the Shaanxi Women’s Federation, the Xi’an Women’s Federation and the Administrative Committee of the Xian Beilin University-based Innovation Industrial District.
