Lan Hui (1965-2013)
"Comrade Lan Hui always placed the cause of the Party and the people at the top of his heart," Xi said in a written instruction in 2013, adding Lan was "a role model for CPC members in the new era."
Lan Hui, former deputy head of Beichuan Qiang autonomous county in Southwest China's Sichuan province, was known for his painstaking efforts at the forefront of relief and reconstruction work following the devastating May 12 quake in 2008.
He reportedly traveled more than 200 kilometers on average daily during his three-year tenure as deputy head of the county.
Lan fell off a cliff and died while inspecting a rural road on May 23, 2013. He was 48.
