Ministries share data to curb marriage fraud

Marriage information in China can now be checked through a shared database if a person had registered for marriage at overseas embassies and consulates, as the Ministry of Civil Affairs stated Wednesday.
Domestic data are also available at overseas registries, which the ministry said could help curb misconduct involving marriage registration.
The measures came after the ministry decided to share the data with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a move in line with the central government’s policy to boost data connectivity among departments.
The two ministries will update the data regularly to make sure domestic data complies with that outside the country, so as to enhance the accuracy of registration.
