SINGAPORE - Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Friday made a phone call and invited the US President Trump to make a state visit to Singapore this November, in conjunction with the 6th ASEAN-US Summit and 13th East Asia Summit, said a press statement from Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the statement, Lee told Trump in his phone call that he looked forward to welcoming President Trump to Singapore for the forthcoming United States-Democratic People's Republic of Korea summit on June 12.

Lee said the summit would be a historic and momentous event. Singapore was honored to host it, and would do its best to facilitate a smooth and successful meeting. This would be an important first step in the long process of securing lasting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

Trump thanked Lee for hosting the summit. He said there had been significant progress on this matter just in the last few months and hoped that the summit would contribute to resolving this long outstanding issue, according to the statement.
