What's in a name for royal babies?

Editor's note: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, have named their new baby Prince Louis Arthur Charles after keeping the world on tenterhooks for almost five days.
Given the names for the first two royal babies, it's no surprise the duke and duchess have picked a traditional name for their third, to honor past monarchs and relatives. Let's take a closer look at the meanings behind these names.
Prince Louis Arthur Charles, Infant

The toddler is fifth in line to the British throne, after grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William and his two older siblings.
The names honor both the Prince's grandfather, Prince Charles, and Louis Mountbatten, the Duke of Edinburgh's mentor.
Arthur had been the favorite predicted first name, eventually announced as a middle name. It is also one of the Duke of Cambridge's own middle names.
"The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge," said Kensington Palace.
The name is a significant tribute to the Royal Family, with the newborn Prince sharing names in common with his brother Prince George Alexander Louis, his father Prince William Arthur Philip Louis, and his grandfather Prince Charles Philip Arthur George.
