Rushan to build international oyster hub

The first China (Rushan) International Oyster Forum was held in Rushan, Shandong province, from April 21 to 23.
The forum, with the theme "Sustainable development and food security of the oyster industry", gathered more than 200 experts and entrepreneurs from home and abroad.
The opening ceremony of the forum saw the inauguration of the China Institute of Oyster Industry.
The institute will combine research, application of research results and incubation of start-ups with support from the Marine Research Center of the China Academy of Sciences.
"The building of this international platform will surely give a boost to the oyster industry in Rushan, promote its brand and produce new ideas and thoughts on the marine economy," said Zhou Bing, Party head of Rushan.
Boasting a coastline of 199 kilometers, Rushan is known as the "home of oysters" in China. It is the largest producer of oysters in North China, with oyster farms of 5,333 hectares and an annual output of 300,000 tons.
