Authorities introduce new shared bike ruling

In the latest move to resolve the congestion problems caused by shared bikes, authorities in Shanghai are ordering operators to register their bikes electronically. According to a report by Kankanews.com, the city's transportation commission is gathering information of the bikes that are already deployed and will share this data with the city's public security department. The move will enable authorities to identify operators that violate the rule regarding the addition of more bikes to the market.

Self-driving cleaning trucks put on trial run

A fleet of driverless sweeper trucks, said to be the first of its kind in the world, has been put on a trial run at an industrial park in Shanghai. Designed and developed by Shanghai-based firm Autowise.ai, the fleet — it comprises 6-meter-long and 3-meter-long vehicles — was tested at the Tus-Caohejing Science Park in Shanghai. The unmanned vehicles self-activate every night at 2 am to clean the roads before dumping the trash and returning to the parking space.

Second Chongming Island Leisure Games kick off

The Second Chongming Island Leisure Games took place at Chongming Island, Shanghai, this month as part of efforts to promote the national fitness initiative. The games was separated into four categories including cycling, road running, aquatic sports and the puzzle-based fitness activities. "Our mission is to satisfy the growing and diversified demands for physical fitness, and to build Chongming Island into a 'sports leisure island' with strong reputation and influence," said Gong Yaofei, director of the sports administration of Chongming.

Two table tennis museums open to the public

The International Table Tennis Federation Museum and the China Table Tennis Museum, both of which are located at the World Expo site in Shanghai's Huangpu district, opened to the public. The museums cover an area of 5,000 square meters with three floors and a basement. The facility features an equipment exhibition area, public service area, interactive experience area, collection technique area and educational research area.

Japanese violin prodigy to perform in city

Japanese American violinist Ryu Goto will present a recital at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center on June 16. His upcoming concert in Shanghai will feature the works of French composers such as Claude Debussy, Ernest Chausson and Camille Saint-Saens. Besides the food and rich history in art in China, Goto said he is also looking forward to the "intriguing opportunities only available through China" .

Art festivals collaborate for Rite of Spring

The China Shanghai International Arts Festival (CSIAF) and the Edinburgh International Festival (EIF) have agreed to co-commission a dance production by Yang Liping. Yang's Rite of Spring will premiere at the 20th CSIAF in October. It will also be showcased at the EIF in 2019. Joanna Baker, managing director of EIF, said that the signing of the memorandum of understanding marked a new partnership between the two festivals.
