A railway bed along the Beijing-Guangzhou line gave way on Thursday due to nearby construction work, causing widespread delays, according to China Railway Wuhan Group.
Repairs are expected to be completed at about 6 pm on Thursday, it said.
The collapse occurred at about 1 am in Wuhan, Hubei province, and affected a 110-meter-long section of the tracks.
Regular-speed train services between Wuhan and Guangzhou were delayed, but bullet trains running between the two cities were not affected.
About 1,000 workers have joined in the repair work.
