Editor's note: On the 106th anniversary of the day the RMS Titanic set sail from Southampton on her first and only voyage, we present a recently unearthed set of images from over a century ago. The photos show how passenger liner Carpathia rushed to aid the ship after it struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic.

Images from the collection give a view from the deck of the Carpathia as lifeboats from the Titanic approached, and another shows officers from the Carpathia working that day posing for a picture. Other shots from the tragic event show several survivors of the disaster, including the socialite Margaret Brown who went on to be known as "Unsinkable Molly Brown".
