Timeline of bringing a killer to justice

March 30, 2018

Gao Chengyong receives the death sentence.

July 18 to July 19, 2017

Gao stands trial in a closed-door proceeding due to privacy of the victims.

April 2017

Prosecutors accuse Gao of homicide, rape, robbery and mutilation of corpses.

Aug 26, 2016

Gao is arrested in a grocery store in a school in Baiyin.

March 2015

A blood sample taken from another member of Gao's family in a separate case leads Gansu police to Gao after a DNA comparison.

August 2004

The Ministry of Public Security combines the investigations of the killings in Gansu province and the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

May 1988 to February 2002

Eleven females, including an 8-year-old girl, are killed in Baiyin, Gansu province, and Baotou, Inner Mongolia.
