Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha sent a message to President Xi Jinping on Monday to congratulate him on his election as China's head of state.

Xi was elected Chinese president by a unanimous vote on Saturday morning at the first session of the 13th National People's Congress, China's top legislature.

Prayut said that under Xi's visionary and effective leadership, China will continue to prosper and become an all around well-off society and successfully build a great modern socialist country with Chinese characteristics.

"I strongly hope that our two countries will work even more closely together to further strengthen this partnership to its full potential as well as to advance peace and development in the region and the international community," he said.

The Thai Prime Minister also sent a congratulatory message to Li Keqiang, the newly appointed premier after Xi signed the presidential decree on Sunday.
