Chinese, Kenyans celebrate International Women’s Day

She said that through nearly 70 years of continued efforts, remarkable progress has been made in promoting gender equality in China, with the status of women seeing dramatic changes.

More and more women are also making outstanding contributions, she said, noting the first Chinese Nobel Prize winner in medicine, Tu Youyou, and the first Chinese female astronaut, Liu Yang.

"The level of women's participation in government and political affairs continues to rise, with women representatives in the National People's Congress reaching 25 percent of the total," she said.
