Guangzhou's first overseas flower market is due to kick off in Paris on Feb 14 local time, further promoting the southern Chinese city in the French capital and strengthening ties between the two cities.

Held at the renowned exhibition hall and museum complex the Grand Palais, the event will feature many Chinese New Year traditions, including light shows and flower exhibitions.

Original music specially composed for the venue will be performed on the evening of Feb 14, while promotional videos of Guangzhou will play on three large LED screens. The event will be further enlivened by two disc jockeys, one from China and the other from France, who will lend their musical talents to the proceedings.

The three promotional videos were put together by famous French artist Gad Weil, who has been involved in the planning and organization of many influential cultural activities, including "Bathing the Eiffel Tower in Scarlet Red Lights" in 2004 in celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

Visitors to the flower market will not only have a chance to experience floral works by both French and Chinese florists and artists, but also satiate their palettes with some signature Guangdong cuisine. According to organizers, several celebrities from both Paris and Guangzhou will be in attendance.

A special logo was also designed, with elements from the Canton and Eiffel Towers being enveloped by a heart-shaped icon, perfectly befitting the Valentine's Day union of the two cities.
