BEIJING - China's basic medical insurance now covers 1.35 billion people, according to the National Health and Family Planning Commission.
The coverage rate of the insurance is stable at 95 percent of the population, said Wang Hesheng, deputy director of the commission, at a press conference Monday.
Another insurance scheme for major diseases covers 1.05 billion people, said Wang, adding that an emergency medical assistance mechanism has helped nearly 700,000 since 2013.
Future medical reform will focus on promoting balanced development of medical services in different regions, said Wang.
