Lanzhou police seize 15 kg heroin in drug case

LANZHOU - Police of Lanzhou city, Northwest China's Gansu province, have caught a man suspected of transporting drugs and seized 15 kg of heroin.
Last month, Lanzhou police were informed that a man surnamed Ma frequently contacted people at the border area of the southwestern Yunnan province, and he was suspected of transporting a large quantity of drugs from Yunnan to Gansu.
With the support of Yunnan police, Lanzhou police caught Ma in Kunming, capital of Yunnan, on Feb 2 and captured a vehicle carrying 15 kg of heroin. The police escorted Ma back to Lanzhou Thursday.
The case is under further investigation.
Under the country's Criminal Law, smuggling, trafficking, transporting or making 50 grams of heroin or more is punishable by 15 years in jail, life imprisonment or the death penalty.
