During his inspection tour to Central China's Hunan province from Nov 3 to 5, Xi inspected the Aizhai Suspension Bridge, the highest of its kind, in Jishou.

Xi said it was important for poverty-hit areas to improve their transportation conditions and infrastructure in order to shake off poverty and set out on a road to prosperity. Governments at all levels should increase support in this regard.

About the bridge

Aizhai Suspension Bridge, part of the Jishou-Chadong Expressway, opened to traffic on March 31, 2012. Crossing Dehang Grand Canyon, the bridge has a main span of 1,176 meters and a height of 355 meters.
