E-sports' inexorable rise continued apace last year, with live gaming events, such as the 2017 King Pro League, packing out arenas, attracting huge numbers of online viewers and generating massive revenues in game spending, ticketing and merchandizing. Industry researchers estimated that the market value of China's e-sports sector had reached nearly $7 billion by the end of 2017.
