With the joint efforts of all the Chinese people to push forward reform and opening-up, the country will definitely achieve national rejuvenation under the leadership of the CPC, he said.

Remarking that 2017 has been a milestone for the Party and country's development, Xi spoke highly of the achievements made in all areas.

The Party and government have pushed forward supply-side structural reform, practiced poverty reduction with strong measures, and made new progress in building economics, politics, culture, society and ecological civilization, Xi said.

A total of 79 major reform tasks have been completed in 2017, and 399 reform plans have been produced by the central authorities this year, he said.

Stressing that the CPC will govern the Party with strict discipline, Xi said that overwhelming anti-corruption power has been formulated and strengthened continuously.

On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission, Xi extended sincere New Year's wishes to all the Chinese people across the country and around the world.

Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the CPPCC, said while presiding over the gathering that Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is the guide for all works of the top political advisory body.

The political advisers should be dedicated to fulfilling their duties and implementing the spirit of the CPC's 19th National Congress, Yu said.
