6. The beauty of hope: Color Mushroom Cloud in Chicago

Celebrated Chinese artist Cai Guoqiang launched his artwork Color Mushroom Cloud from the University of Chicago's rooftop at around 3:25 pm Dec 2, at the same time as the Chicago Pile-1 reaction 75 years ago. The explosion was to shine a light on the 75th anniversary of the first controlled nuclear reaction.

Cai wanted to express his concerns and expectations on human civilization's development, including the responsibilities of the rapidly developing network and AI in the present day. Using gunpowder creates beauty, in his opinion, which gives people some hope though there is much fear and violence in the world.
