An awards ceremony to recognize the work of individuals and organizations in cultural heritage protection in China was held in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, on Friday.

The annual event, naming the winners, is released by China Foundation for Cultural Heritage Conservation, based on expert judgment and public poll online.

This is the ninth edition of the awards.

This year's entries for individual awards have had a wide range: A museum teacher in Shaanxi province, a cultural reporter from Beijing, a retired worker in Hubei province making short films on conservation, a forest ranger from Hubei fighting against "tomb raiders", and a museum worker in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

A total of 10 people won prizes.

Ten organizations were also given the awards, including the new media team of Palace Museum, a Beijing-based volunteer group that helps to protect the Great Wall, a production team from China Central Television that focuses on traditional villages.

"The awards also enhance people’s cultural self-confidence," Li Xiaojie, head of China Foundation for Cultural Heritage Conservation, said at Friday’s ceremony.

The complete list of winners is on ccrpf.org.cn.
