One of the world's largest Class A biology laboratory, ATLATL, has just opened in Zhangjiang "Science City," according to a news report published on the website of Pudong, Shanghai.

The article, dated Dec 7, reports that the new laboratory will further China's research and development in bio-medical sciences, as well as collaborate with entrepreneurs, investors and drug companies on new innovations.

It is certified Class A, the highest standard awarded to a research facility, assessed according to an American evaluation system. There are high requirements on its construction. Multinational pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, Novartis and Johnson & Johnson are equipped with such facilities.

Class A labs provide researchers a comfortable working environment, secure operating system and enhanced working efficiency. For instance, the ATLATL lab uses space efficiently and shares resources to help new enterprises overcome cost challenges in the initial start-up phase.

Meanwhile ATLATL is trying to attract top researchers from around the world.

Other pharmaceutical companies and research institutions have also settled in Zhangjiang. At present, Zhangjiang has developed an integrated industry value chain that encompasses pharmaceutical research and evaluation, clinical trials, drug registration, manufacturing and marketing.
