Jilin newspaper alarms public with info on nuclear weapons
An official newspaper in Jilin province published full-page coverage Wednesday with information about nuclear weapons and how to prevent radiation hazards, arousing wide public attention.
Jilin Daily, headquartered in the Jilin provincial capital of Changchun, published the whole report, which was called a special column, on Page 5.
Illustrated with pictures, the page included three articles providing definitions, characteristics and hazards of nuclear weapons as well as describing how a nuclear explosion might appear and what its five destructive powers would be. There was also information about how to protect oneself when a nuclear explosion or leak occurs.
The coverage attracted the attention of many media organizations and netizens due to the geographic location of the province. However, an unnamed staff member with the newspaper said that it was a just a regular column for national defense education, news portal Guanmedia.com reported.
