Beijing education officials investigated for kindergarten controversy

BEIJING -- Beijing municipal authorities on Wednesday said three district education officials are being investigated for weak supervision of a private kindergarten that caught national attention.
The officials under investigation are the head, a deputy head and a lower official of Chaoyang district education committee.
The three were not doing their jobs, said the investigation team.
Last week, angry parents claimed their children were abused at the RYB Education New World kindergarten in the district. The police stepped in and an investigation showed a female teacher allegedly used sewing needles to "discipline" children who would not sleep.
The kindergarten apologized for the incident.
Beijing authorities have ordered tightened oversight over preschools especially to enforce high moral codes on teachers.
