Macao'population increases in Q1

MACAO -- The population of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) has increased by 3,400 quarter-to-quarter in the first quarter of this year, according to the statistics released by Macao's Statistics and Census Service on Wednesday.
The total population of Macao SAR reached 648,300 as of the end of March in 2017, with the female population accounting for 52.7 percent of the total, the statistics shows.
A total of 1,560 live births were delivered in the first quarter of 2017, a decrease of 397, or 20.3 percent quarter-to-quarter. Among the new born, most of them are male babies.
The population mortality decreased by 39 quarter-to-quarter to 499. The top three underlying causes of death were Neoplasms, Diseases of the Circulatory System, and Diseases of the Respiratory System.
There were 1,211 immigrants from the mainland, up by 423 quarter-to-quarter. Non-resident workers totalled about 180,000 at the end of the first quarter in 2017.
