Paper wins Highly Commended Award

China Daily European Weekly, one of the regional editions under the China Daily banner, was given the Highly Commended Award as an international entry to the 2016 Newsawards of Britain.

At the ceremony attended in London by more than 500 professionals from the press industry, China Daily European Weekly managed to beat other strong competitors among the International group, including Guardian Weekly and Wall Street Journal, and came in second in the category. The winner was Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.

European Weekly was the group winner of 2014 and was shortlisted for the Commended Award in 2015.

The judges concluded that China Daily European Weekly presented "another striking entry", adding that "this winner from two years ago continues to be a world-class product. A fresh looking paper with an enticing new design".

Eighteen awards were designed to identify and encourage the best practice in design, printing and digital creativity amongst national, regional and international publications available in the UK. The Grand Prix went to Financial Times as a "clear winner" while the Daily Telegraph won the National Newspaper of the Year. The best website of the year was awarded to the Guardian.
