| Hands of gold: A statue of Qianshou Guanyin, or thousand-hand Bodhisattva, reopened to the public in Dazu district of Chongqing on June 13, after seven years of restoration work. More than 1 million pieces of gold foil were used in the project, the most extensive of at least four restorations it has undergone. The figure - 7.7 meters tall and 12.5 meters wide - dates from the Southern Song dynasty (1127 to 1279). It is considered a masterpiece among the thousands of rock carvings in the grottoes of Dazu.
