Timeline of progress

The Sino-Germany Intergovernmental Consultations, the highest level of negotiations, were established in 2010. They are the only such intergovernmental consultation framework into which the Chinese government has entered with a foreign government.

First round: Berlin, June 2011

The two signed eight consensus agreements and nearly 20 deals worth $15 billion. Thirteen Chinese and 10 German ministers attended the meeting.

Second round: Beijing, August 2012

The two governments signed 18 agreements and two joint communiques. Both countries also resolved an anti-dumping dispute involving the photovoltaic industry. Eight ministers and five deputy ministers from China as well as seven ministers and two secretaries of state from Germany attended the meeting.

Third round: Berlin, this month

A comprehensive action guideline and agreements worth $18.4 billion were signed. It marked the highest-level meeting since the consultations were established.
