A work by Yu-Cheng Chou Provided to China Daily

Taiwan artist Yu-Cheng Chou, who studied in France and has exhibited internationally, creates projects that examine the operations hidden within daily systems and communications between private, corporate and public spheres.

He challenges the relationship between these private enterprises and art institutions with what he calls his "design tricks".

By requesting the engaged participation of these partners, he wants the partnership itself to become the artwork.

For his residency at the Chinese Art Centre in Manchester, titled Breathe, Chou will explore the unlikely connections between Chinese philosophical thought and Western plastic arts. He, the artist, will become the curator, sourcing other local artists to select objects they believe embody Chinese philosophical thought, creating an alternative curatorial cooperation.

Date: May 13- July 21

Venue: Chinese Art Centre, Market Buildings, Thomas Street, Manchester
