"We need to have more Chinese intellectuals learning about African culture because without good cultural exchanges, you cannot understand your partners well, and misunderstandings could prove to be dangerous."

Zhong Jianhua, China's special envoy to Africa, saying during a media interaction in Abuja, Nigeria that more cultural exchanges would help cement ties between the two sides. Zhong said the forthcoming African trip of President Xi Jinping would give an insight into China's policies in Africa for the next few years.

"Damaging food safety shouldn't be considered an economic crime, but viewed as a grave crime that endangers public health and life."

Shi Jie, vice-chairman of the Sichuan Province Lawyers Association and a member of the national committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, commenting on the growing number of food safety cases in China.

"From our point of view, we've got many new technologies in areas that could be of importance to China in the future."

Jerzy Buzek, former European parliament president and Polish prime minister, saying that Poland and China should cooperate in many fields such as steel and chemical industries, and not just in mining and food products. He added that Poland needs products not only made in China but also invented in China.
