To mark the diamond jubilee of the ascent of Queen Elizabeth to the throne, the Fitzwilliam Museum showcases the first major exhibition in Britain of more than 80 works created in Jingdezhen, dubbed as the China's porcelain capital, by about 50 ceramicists.

Comprising technically brilliant work ranging from the traditional to the avant-garde, China's White Gold: Contemporary Porcelain from Jingdezhen explores Jingdezhen's legacy, and looks at what it means for artists working there today.

The exhibition also tells tales of incredible craftsmanship, industrial espionage and conspicuous consumption on a grand scale. It features some of the world's foremost porcelain ceramicists and works never before seen in Britain, including a number of specially commissioned pieces.

Housing world-class collections of art and antiquities spanning centuries and civilizations, the Fitzwilliam Museum holds the exhibition in conjunction with the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute to promote China's ancient craftsmanship in a new era.

Date: Dec 18-April 1

Venue: The Fitzwilliam Museum at Mellon (13), Trumpington St
