Li Rongrong, former head of the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, saying that Chinese products can easily shake off their inferior tag if the manufacturing industry recruits more workers who care about quality rather than quantity. Li said other developed nations such as Germany have reaped manufacturing success with the help of dedicated and quality-conscious workers.

"Cultural values are often given the short-shrift in the quest for box-office success. Chinese literature is far better than its movies."

Lu Wei, a popular screenplay writer from China, commenting on the current state of Chinese films in a recent media interview. Lu says that Chinese movies lack cultural connotations and are just commercial products meant to entertain.

"I thought my daughter was not in a dangerous situation and so rescued my neighbor's daughter first. If I had gone to rescue (the neighbor's daughter) a little later, she might have fallen into the deep water and died."

Xiao Guang, a villager from Huanghua township in Changsha, Hunan province, explaining why he decided to save his neighbor's daughter first after she and his daughter fell into a pond in late October. Guang eventually saved both the girls.
