Kristalina Georgieva, the European commissioner for international cooperation, humanitarian aid and crisis response, visited China last week to launch a new collaboration on disaster risk management. The EU will share its expertise to help China strengthen its national system of disaster risk management, while both sides will profit from much closer dialogue and cooperation in this area.

During her talks with State Councilor Ma Kai, the Chinese Academy of Governance and different ministries, the EU delegation said both sides agreed that an increasing number of natural disasters is being induced by the negative effects of climate change. The cooperation between China and the EU will cover disaster preparedness and prevention and institutional mechanisms and the stronger involvement of civil society in civil protection and emergency management.

As the UK celebrated the queen's 60th year on the throne, the foreign office published the annual Diplomatic Service and Overseas Birthday Honours.
