On December 22, 1973, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) announced Deng Xiaoping would become a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the Central Military Commission. On the same day, the Central Military Commission issued an order to rotate commanders-in-chief of the eight military regions.
