Jan 10, 1938: Interim government of Shanxi-Chaha'er-Hebei border region established
On Jan 10, 1938, the conference of military, government and people's representatives in the Shanxi-Chaha'er-Hebei border region was held in Fuping in west Hebei, marking the establishment of the first anti-Japanese democratic government set up by the Communist Party of China behind its enemy lines.
The conference elected the interim administrative committee of the border region, with Song Shaowen as its director.
The central area of the border region was located among four railways of Pingsui, Pinghan, Tongpu, Zhengtai, signifying important strategic position.
